Shared server, dedicated server - what is?

There are three main types of server:

Shared server - a shared server has many different areas hosted on it. All server resources are shared by multiple Web sites. The considered a workbook with multiple records in each drawer. On a shared server, you have a control on your record and what it contains. Other website owners have also their own space, separate from yours, but sharing the same server resources.

Hosting on a shared server is by far the most popular option, primarily the price. You can pay as little as a few dollars a month, and there are some hosts that provide free web space on shared servers.

Dedicated virtual -also known as a 'Virtual Private Server' or VPS, it is the next step of a shared server. If we use the example workbook, it would be as a workbook with several drawers and every Web site would be a drawer. While the resources are still shared, there is not as many websites sharing the server, and we have more control on our space on the server. The server is configured so that it looks and feels like a dedicated server.

Hosting on a virtual dedicated server is a popular option for the busiest web sites. It is difficult to define "occupied" as it varies greatly depending on what kind of services you provide on the web, but most often, web site owners will upgrade a virtual dedicated server when they find that their existing server is getting lots of visitors and the volume of visitors begins to slow Web site.

Dedicated server - dedicated server is like having control over all of the workbook. It is not shared with another domain or another Web site. In most cases, when you request a dedicated server, web hosting provider will be your new server installed and configured within 1-3 days. With a dedicated server, you have the whole server to yourself. You control complete on all server resources and can use the server in any way you want, it does not violate the terms of web hosts service provided.

Hosting on a dedicated server is suited for very high traffic Web sites. You have full control on the server and its resources and can request updates level, as additional hard drives, additional memory and a faster processor.
